Frequently Asked Questions:

What does a Publisher do?

A Macaroni Kid Publisher is the go-to resource for family fun in their community. It is a Publisher’s job to stay on top of all of the kid-friendly events, activities, businesses and organizations in their community, and to get the word out to local families. They do this by producing weekly, hyperlocal e-newsletters and updating their websites with events and articles they write featuring the best things to do and places to go with kids. Publishers are also responsible for managing their business’ social media channels, hosting local events and parties, and selling advertising packages to local businesses and organizations. Publishers also participate in national advertising campaigns under the leadership of Macaroni Kid HQ, where they have the opportunity to experience and review products and services geared to moms, kids and families and get the word out to their readers via articles and social media posts.

Does a Publisher have to live in their community?

We require all of our Publishers to live, work, or play within a  30-minute radius of their Territory. Experience has shown that Publishers are not successful unless they are connected with and ingrained in the community they serve.

Do I need to have any experience with publishing, ad sales, or social media?

No past experience is needed! All new Publishers receive access to Macaroni Kid's comprehensive, proprietary training program and platform that will provide you with the critical tools, knowledge, skills and business expertise needed to become a successful Publisher. This includes training in advertising, social media, content creation, business management and more - marketable skills that are applicable beyond your role as a Publisher. We also will connect you to our Publisher Development team who will be on standby to help answer any questions and walk you through the first few months of being a Publisher.

How many hours does a successful Publisher put into their business each week?

The time commitment varies based on the individual Publisher’s goals for their Macaroni Kid business and how much money they wish to earn. However, on average, Publishers spend about 20 hours a week working on their business. The time commitment is greatest during the first few months as you participate in training and familiarize yourself with all of the ins and outs required to establish and run your new business. Many Publishers choose to keep their Macaroni Kid business as more of a part-time job, and their weekly hours decrease once their site is established and they are adept at researching and finding events. Others choose to continue to put in more hours in order to grow their business more quickly and generate more income.

How much money will I make?

What Publishers earn varies by Territory and depends on the individual Publisher’s goals and time available to devote to their Macaroni Kid business. The more time you put in, the more earning potential you have; some Publishers have made their Macaroni Kid business a very successful full-time job. A Macaroni Kid business is not intended to be a "get rich quick,” MLM, or direct-sales business. Publishers earn money by selling advertising packages to local businesses and organizations, of which they keep 100% of the proceeds, and by participating in national advertising campaigns. Macaroni Kid Publishers also barter with businesses in their Territory for free products and services (e.g., free classes at their local kids’ gym) in exchange for writing a review or providing other advertising for the businesses.

Do I need any special software or equipment?

You can work from any Mac or PC, as long as you are able to get online to access the Macaroni Kid platform. The site is very easy to use and built for all technical abilities. If you can upload a photo to Facebook, you can run a Macaroni Kid site. It is helpful that you be comfortable with social media (especially Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) so that you can connect with the families in your community, as well as the advertisers that you want to collaborate with.

Are there any start-up costs?

Other than your monthly $59/month hosting fee, there are no start-up costs paid to Macaroni Kid HQ. Each Publisher handles their own finances and accounts payable/receivable. This is your own business and not one that Macaroni Kid HQ manages for you. And remember, you keep 100% of the income you earn!
