Spreading Kindness with Painted Pocks

Macaroni Kid CaryGrove-Barrington-Palatine is Bringing the Kindness Rock Project to our Community

Join us in Spreading Kindness throughout Palatine, Barrington, Fox River Grove, Cary and surrounding communities. The Kindness Rock Project is a great way to be creative and spread joy throughout the community. The idea is to paint rocks with inspirational messages or happy pictures and leave them throughout the community spreading kindness.  If you find a rock, you can leave it for someone else to find, hide it in a different location, or keep it and consider painting a rock of your own to replace the one you’ve kept.

My kids, their friends and myself have been painting rocks and are almost ready to start leaving them around our community. Here are a few tips on painting rocks at home.

  • Collect rocks by going on a nature hike or pick up a small bag at craft or dollar store.
  • The kids can have fun cleaning them in a bowl of soapy water
  • Painting is easy and fun! Acrylics work best for weather but can damage clothing.
  • Write simple messages in Sharpie (You are special, You are kind, I like you, etc)
  • Scatter for others to find. Make a special trip or just put some in the car to drop while running errands.

This is a fun project to do with your family. It gives you a chance to be creative and spread joy to others.  After Spring Break my kids and myself will be leaving rocks around the community at parks and local businesses.  If you find a rock marked with #CGBPRocks look up our FACEBOOK Painted Rocks Group HERE and share a picture of the rock you found, where you find it, what you love about it, maybe what you intend to do with it.  Or join our group and share some rocks you have painted before you set them out to spread the kindness.

Are you a local business that would like to partner and host a rock painting event? Email me at katiew@macaronikid.com

*Make sure to have permission when leaving rocks. Please do not hide your rocks in grassy areas where they could cause damage to a lawn mower. Do not place rocks in National forests, National parks or State Parks.  Do not trespass or take rocks from private properties.
